Training in the Rain

During the winter months it gets dark too early to bike outside after work. In the weekends, my fingers are crossed for a day without rain on the Sunday so I can bike outside.

Last weekend here in Christchurch was a wet one. On Sat I did an hour run which was nice in the rain. Running isn’t too bad in the wet since your body temperature rises quite a bit.

On the Sunday, I did a 3 hour cycle. After the first 15 mins I was completely soaked through. I figured it’d be ok as long as I didn’t stop long enough to get cold. I rode out to Motukarara and back. A nice ride and I saw loads of other crazy people running and cycling in the rain.

The next wet weekend I’ll definitely be cycling inside on my wind-trainer. On a wet day the Port Hills can be quite dangerous. It gets foggy and unless you have bright lights and a high vis vest on cars can’t see you.

My training over the past week:

Monday
AM: Swim – 1hr
PM: Run – 1hr 45mins

Tuesday
AM: Swim – 1hr 25mins
PM: Bike – 1hr 40mins

Wednesday
AM: Swim – 1hr 30mins
PM: Bike – 50mins

Thursday
AM: Run – 40mins
PM: Run – 1hr

Friday
AM: Swim – 1hr 45mins

Saturday
AM: Run – 1hr 15mins

Sunday
AM: bike – 3hrs

Today is Monday and I’m off for a 90min mod/hard run in the rain with my iPod. Take a look below, doesn’t look that inviting. It’ll be dark by the time I get home to run.

Webcam of where I'm about to run right now.
