Scotty Crashed His Quintana Roo Bike After One Race!
My boyfriend Scott (McNab) bought his first time trial bike only a few weeks ago now. He had one race on it – the South Island Half Ironman. Before that race he had trouble fitting our race wheels on because of the brakes. Apparently on the new model of bike they have changed this, but with his current model you need to file down the brake pads a hell of a lot or change the brake cable part so it is longer. (I probably haven’t explained that 100% right!) So anyway he was gutted and I got to use the race wheels on my Avanti for the Sprint triathlon at Aushburton that same day!
Scott is training for Ironman NZ in Taupo in March so really needs to get some time on the bike as it’s not far away now! With the Challenge Wanaka Half Ironman in early Jan 2011 it was going to be a good chance to try out the new bike with the ZIPPS we have borrowed from our coach (Graham Park) for the summer. Now I’m not sure if Scott will have his new bike ready for Challenge Wanaka. But I think when he does get it, it might be the new model so the brakes will be fine to fit carbon race wheels in.
While on a sales trip last week he was staying in Owaka at his parents place in the gorgeous Catlins. He was out on a bike ride down the Owaka Valley rd and a dog ran out in front of him flipping him over the handlebars. He must have been going about 50 km/hr with a tail wind and hands on the aerobars so no time to brake. But don’t worry the dog was ok!
The forks are smashed and now the bike is off to the bike shop. The bike is bright green and there are no more of the green forks in stock anywhere! He will have to get black forks for his green bike, or an entire new frame.

The carbon fibre forks sadly broken

Here is Scotty in his first (and only) race on the green Quintana Roo CD01 bike at the South Island Half Ironman a few weeks ago. Looking good!

This is the bike he bought just a few weeks ago.

This might be the new colour frame Scott is getting. It's the 2011 model o the Quintanaroo CD01. Looks pretty hot too.

Hi I bought a QR cd01 too. The white 2010 durace model. Just received it this morning. Sadly it came without the seatpost
I’m not sure now if it wasn’t packed in or if it was lost during the shipping. Contacted the shipping company and bike shop hoping to get positive replied soon. Can you imagine my frustration to get an almost complete bike but without the seatpost? Sigh. Sorry to hear of your accident. Would you like to give your seatpost a second life? Just asking as QR cd01 seatposts r v specifically designed for the frame n I can’t find any other seatpost that can fit it
. Hope to hear from u via email. Thanks n take care.
Hi Vincent,
It should definitely have come with the seatpost. i’d go back to where you got it from and get them to sort it. If you really get stuck let me know. My spare is black but would solve your prob for sure.
Cheers
Scott
