Gold Medal at Duathlon National Champs!

Christchurch August 22nd 2010

We had the NZ duathlon nationals here in Christchurch on Aug 22. That’s 10km run / 40km bike / 5km run.

The first run was up the quarry in Hallswell. !! I was worried about the race leading up to it and considering doing the shorter course since it didn’t have the hill in it. But went for the standard course (long) and actually loved it. I got a gold medal for my age group and 10th overall.

During the race I used my coaches Zip404 (carbon wheels) for the first time.

It was the first decent race I’d used my new bike (Avanti Cadent), so I got to try it out with the Zipps. It seemed awesome! I’m pretty sure I was quite a bit faster, it could be a combination of training and the new bike. Didn’t have too good a run on the last 5km. But I’m putting that down to absolutely no hill run training and there being a massive 2km hill in the first run so my legs were pretty stuffed.

I came 1st in my age group in a time of 2:29:19.
